03/03/2007 - San Antonio, TX (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Manu Ginobili erupted for 31 points -- 25 of which came in the second half -- to carry the San Antonio Spurs past the Orlando Magic, 98-74, at AT&T Center.
Ginobili was a blistering 6-of-9 from beyond-the-arc and dished out five assists for the Spurs, who have won seven in a row. Tim Duncan posted a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Michael Finley dropped in 12 points off the bench.
Hedo Turkoglu was 7-of-8 from the field en route to a 22-point night for Orlando, which has dropped six of its last seven. Jameer Nelson contributed 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists in a losing effort.
The Spurs finished the first quarter on a 9-2 run to go ahead 22-16, and pushed the advantage to 43-33 at intermission.
Orlando made a charge in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to six with 4:35 to play after a pair of free throws by Nelson. Ginobili, though, banged in a pair of threes with time winding down to give him 16 points in the frame and the Spurs a 65-57 lead.
Ginobili wasn't done. He scored nine points in the opening 2:40 of the fourth to head a 13-3 run and push the San Antonio advantage to 78-60.
After converting a three-point play, Ginobili followed a pair of Jacque Vaughn free throws with a long trey to make it 75-59. On the ensuing possession, Ginobili hit a driving layup, was fouled, and drained the ensuing shot from the stripe to complete the surge and bring the home crowd to its feet.
The Spurs cruised the rest of the way, and Ginobili earned an early exit.

Forward Tony Battie, meanwhile, missed his 11th straight game because of a fractured right thumb...The Magic are just 10-20 on the road this season...Orlando has lost 13 of its last 15 at San Antonio.

Academy Award Betting Odds for Best Picture Offer Great Value
If there is any category that is not an obvious win for any one nominee in this year's Academy Awards, it would be for Best Picture. Sure the Departed is a 5/7 favorite, but that's hardly anything when we look at Helen Mirren and her "out-of-reach" 1 to 40 odds (which means you would win a whopping $1 for every $40 bet).
For value, take a look at MySportsbook.com Oscars betting odds on my personal favorite, The Queen - a remarkable 12 to 1 long shot. The film hasn't won any pre-awards for Best Picture (compared to The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine), but there is a tremendous following and it is a strong enough film to warrant a surprise win.
TV Guide advises Oscar watchers should be cautioned not to discount the drama "Babel" with its strong social themes about overcoming communication gaps among people of different cultures.
"While 'Babel' lost several guild awards to 'Sunshine' and 'Departed,' it still enjoys loyal support, and historically Oscar voters favor dramas with social messages over comedies like 'Sunshine' and violent crime movies like 'Departed'."
"It hasn't done well in the guilds, which means there isn't much industry support," said Tom O'Neil of awards site TheEnvelope.com, "But several critics are expecting it to win, and that gets my attention." Babel had 7 to 2 odds at press time.
Who is to say independently produced Little Miss Sunshine won't be this year's Crash. Last year, Crash won for Best Motion Picture, shocking those who bet on gay cowboy flick, Brokeback Mountain, as the favorite to win.

MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds
With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.
Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season. Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.
This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy. A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.
Current betting odds Heisman trophy are:
| Brady Quinn (QB, Notre Dame) Adrian Peterson (RB, Oklahoma) Troy Smith (QB, Ohio State) Michael Bush (RB, Louisville) Steve Slaton (RB, West Virginia) Brian Brohm (QB, Louisville) Chris Leak (QB, Florida) Mike Hart (RB, Michigan) Ted Ginn (WR, Ohio State) Darius Walker (RB, Notre Dame) Drew Tate (QB, Iowa) Marshawn Lynch (RB, Cal) Kenny Irons (RB, Auburn) Chad Henne (QB, Michigan) Kyle Wright (QB, Miami) Drew Stanton (QB, Michigan State) Kenneth Darby (RB, Alabama) JaMarcus Russell (QB, LSU) Drew Weatherford (QB, Florida State) Blake Mitchell (QB, South Carolina) Reggie Ball (QB, Georgia Tech) |
